Trash Talk Tampa
Recycling
Many materials can be recycled. Recycling can cost money, usually less than dumping, some materials can be dumped for free, some things you can get paid for. Most recycling facilities specialize in a limited range of materials, so finding the right place is the key to success here.
There are a whole bunch of recycling businesses out there. We are still assembling lists and data, so remember that these pages are a work in progress.

Tires
There aren't any tire recycling facilities that create usable products in Hillsborough County. The following facilities will accept tires.
Residential trash pickup - The City of Tampa allows residents to dispose of a limited number of tires with their normal trash pickup, I think these go to the City waste to energy incinerator.
Environmental Waste Tire Recycling Inc. - Tires are processed into fuel at this facility.

Southeast County Landfill - Tires are ground up before being buried in the landfill.

E - Waste
There are a bunch of E-Waste recyclers now, I like these guys because they have been around for a while and they recycle everything, not just the easy money components. They offer secure destruction of computer drives and have a store offering deals on used/salvaged computers and televisions.

Concrete
Concrete is ground up and used for road base and other things you would use gravel for. You can usually dump concrete or similar materials (ceramic tile, asphalt, pavers, bricks etc.) for free. There are a bunch of concrete grinders around Hillsborough County, I will get you a complete list later.

Plastic
Plastics recycling as a business is difficult. Don't even think about recycling plastics for money unless you have several tons of clean material. For small quantities, bottles, food containers, etc. the city waste department will pick up recyclables with residential trash collection. Just fill up the blue box.
Metals
There are a lot of metal recyclers in Tampa. For a casual seller, there is not a big difference between them. I suggest that you google "metal recyclers", call three of them in your area and go for the best price. You will get the best prices if you sort the material. Use a magnet to check whether an item is steel or not. Expect to fill out some forms and get thumbprints and photos taken. This is in response to an epidemic of metal thefts, don't take it personally.
Hazardous waste
Paint, solvents, pesticides, fluorescent bulbs/tubes, etc.
